EMC Adds Customer and Partners, Addresses Malaysia Storage Trends
Storage Leader sees healthy growth; launches new high-end storage solution
Kuala Lumpur - Tuesday, August 2, 2005
EMC Malaysia has achieved good growth in the first half of this year, expanding its customer base and increasing channel partnerships, as a result of increasing market acceptance of EMC's information lifecycle management solutions and an expanding product portfolio. The company today also announced the launch of the world's largest, fastest and most scalable high-end storage array to date- the Symmetrix DMX-3™, and two new data migration solutions (see separate press releases).

EMC Malaysia Country Manager K. Raman said, "In Malaysia, there is increasing convergence of storage area networks and network attached storage into a common infrastructure, particularly in multi-site manufacturing operations. Storage consolidation is a key issue for many companies as this can help reduce the total cost of ownership while boosting operational efficiencies. Many of our customers are looking for robust and scalable storage solutions, and disaster recovery remote replication software to accelerate recovery and increase business resilience."

New customers are predominantly from the manufacturing, financial services industry and telecommunications sectors. They include Altera Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, a leader in programmable logic; BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn. Bhd, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Solectron Technology Sdn Bhd, amongst others.

EDS (M) Sdn Bhd and Tegas Tepat Sdn Bhd are the two new channel partners appointed this year. The new partners will be focusing on solutions around backup, recovery and archival, as well as furthering EMC's market presence in the government sector.

We are increasing our focus in Government, Government-linked companies (GLCs) and oil and gas. Through our initiatives, more agencies and companies from these two sectors are beginning to see the benefits of ILM and tiered storage," said Raman.

To sustain EMC's growth for the rest of the year, Raman laid out his plans and strategy. "Information lifecycle management and virtualization are key trends in 2005. ILM provides customers with a strategic approach to get the most value from their information, at the lowest total cost of ownership, at every point in the information lifecycle. While virtualization, which is a part of the ILM strategy, provides the ability to virtualize storage from multiple connected heterogeneous devices and manage a single logical representation from a single point that encompasses the whole SAN," said Raman.

We also expect to see continued high growth in Malaysia, driven by the telecommunications sector; with the growth of 3G, financial services demand for disaster recovery solutions and better recovery time, and business continuity compliance with the Basel II accord," said Raman.
